Find the length of the beam

Problem Statement:

A beam rests on a fulcrum, 1.2 m from one end. A weight of 350 kg is suspended from this end causing the beam to balance. If the weight of 350 kg is suspended on the opposite end of the beam, it is necessary to suspend a 1000 kg weight on the first end in order to effect an even balance. Find the length of the beam.

  • A. 2.48 m
  • B. 3.24 m
  • C. 3.43 m
  • D. 4.21 m

Problem Answer:

The length of the beam is 3.43 m.
